Two questions on Quickness -- Special Smite-o-Mat Recipe
Quickness is exactly what?
- It doubles your in-combat AP
- It increases your in-combat AP by a factor of X (X = ?)
- It doubles AP spent on spellcasting and increases other AP by a factor of X (X =?)
- It does something different?
I can't figure it out by watching battles. It seems good. I usually rush for alteration 2 (I think?) if I have any water mages, it just seems so tasty.
But I am wondering now about the Boots of Quickness.
I have a nice Absysian Salamander prophet who was lucky enough to get Heroic Quickness as his Heroic Ability. I am have been wondering how to equip him. You can imagine that I am interested in giving him lots of Reinvig items. Especially since if he's in a province with say Heat 1 or even worse, he'll be sweating. Or whatever it is salamanders do when they are fatigued.
Oh yeah. But what about the feet? Messenger boots / Boots of That Druid Guy -- or Boots of Quickness?
So:
- Do Boots of Quickness / Quickness spell increase the net BASE AP rate or the gross increased AP rate (of Heroic Ability) (oh please please yum smiteorama yum yum) -- and if so, by how much (see above question)?

This is true. It also allows you double the # of attacks that character currently has (4 attacks for someone normally with 2, 8 for someone normally with 4, etc).
It also gives you +3 Def, +3 Att. It also allows you to cast an additional spell per round.

There is a very easy way to figure out what spells do in combat. There is a pause feature by pressing spacebar. You can find out most of the effects of the game (buff wise) by using this to look at your stats/abilities/etc before and after you cast the spell. The Search Button at the top of the forum can also help you.

Spell/MI Quickness stacks with HoF quickness. But I believe Bless Effect Quickness does not stack with Spell/MI quickness.
So yes, you can have your guy wear a pair of boots and have his HoF ability to do 3 things a turn. But you'll notice that when you script him to do spells, he won't do the first 3. He'll do 2 then he'll either attack, or cast a spell you didn't script, then he'll cast the next 2 scripted spells, then attack or cast a spell you didn't script.

Thanks.
I use the spacebar and check out the stats. But I cannot see what effects this has on actions; i.e. I cannot see how many AP are used for spellcasting, or if there is a different way to figure out which AP are used for what when quickened. (And I did search btw.)
So are you saying that double AP means double attacks but 1 extra spell (no matter what the spell is)? I thought some spells took more AP than others.
Noticed already that he casts spells I didnt script (stupid fire spells) when he should be smiting. Hm.
thanks

Re: Two questions on Quickness -- Special Smite-o-Mat Recipe
You know what? I don't think Spellcasting uses up AP at all. Only movement (and perhaps attacking) does AFAIK.
The Double AP seems to only matter for movement and perhaps a % is taken off for each swing, but I believe the units move uniformly by turn. They have a movement phase then an action phase. And an action can be an attack or a spell.
The double attack only comes from the Quickness spell AFAIK. There must be a flag that says "this unit gets double attacks or 2 spells". With the HoF quickness it increases as you stay in the HoF and there is a certain point where it gives you an additional attack/spell above and beyond 2 (I don't know exactly).
As for him castin' fire spells instead of smiting, that might be because of his range. If you have him set for Smitex5, cast spells. He'll stay in one place like a good boy and cast spells as the enemy comes in range, though sometimes he'll do a buff first (probably Fire Shield).

While the Water-9 blessing is supposed to give "Quickness 50%", whatever 50% means (perhaps it's their way of saying it halves the time actions take), it appears to act as a normal Quickness spell in doubling the number of attacks.
Personally, the blessing effect should have said Quickness (2x) or Quickness (+100%). To me, 50% implies 3 attacks per 2 rounds, which I don;t think is what's happening.

I think that's exactly what's happening.
