Default Critical Pirates & Nomads Patch!

Ok, here's the scoop. AI design ministers will cause a Range Check Error as soon as they research (or otherwise aquire) Solar Sail 3.

The problem is that the AI sees the 9 movement points, and ignores the 20kT size

Thus, they try to use the sails exclusively, and when they add the 29th sail, the total propulsion hits 261 (max 255). RCE occurs, but since it is a AI's turn, no error message shows up, and the game freezes.

To fix:
Copy the components.txt attached in ZIP form above, and overwrite your old P&N v2 Components.txt

If no players are using solar sails on a ship design, your game will be unaffected.

All P&N zips on this forum now contain the patched components.txt, so if you are about to download P&N, this problem does not affect you.

Just wondering, is it a bug (i.e. oversight) that as a nomad you cannot use any sort of component quality on starting satellite designs?
I assume you set the weight limit too high or something.

Of course if this was intended then I'll leave it as is.

In the meantime I have merely edited all component qualities to have a required size of 4kt.

Oh! Gotcha!
I guess that was left over from the ship Quality Grades.

A copy-paste error.

Probably the wrong thread for this but...

I was just looking at your vehiclesiz.txt for my table, and I had an idea for the battlemoon:

Moving somthing that size into a planet's orbit would cause huge problems for the planet (if not the whole system!). Tidal waves, eclipses, freak weather conditions and so on.

Could you simulate this added terror in- game? Perhaps you could make a weapon which will only fire on planets and which degrades conditions there (or maybe just bLasts it-=): Not sure if such a weapon is moddable but if it is you'd have to make sure it will only be used on that hull and only fires once per combat. Could you have it "free" with the hull like the storage and master computer abilities?

Just an idea...

Using a Core-Mount radiation bomb would get you that effect; ruin the biosphere in one shot.

As for tides & stuff, the BattleMoon isn't that heavy. It is only a medium-large Asteroid, while Earth's moon is as big as some planets.
