Well, I got the replacement CD drive today, and it didn't help one bit... It looks like this might take a while, so I was thinking I might want to just install SE4 on the family computer and download all those mods and shipsets, except that would take FOREVER... Last check my SE4 directory was well over half a gig, albeit a lot of it mods I installed once, didn't like, and never deleted... And to be honest, I'm kind of enjoying my little vacation from SE4... now I really know how addicted I was, I have time for other things now... mostly playing Super Smash Bros. on the N64
God that game is fun, but I still want the Gamecube Version, my brother says it's 20 times better
So I guess I'll enjoy this little "vacation" - I hope it doesn't become permanent (I hear the Dell support people really like to erase your hard drive
) - and see what happens...
Oh, and I'd better make another note, this one to Gandalph... I was in the middle of a rather complicated trade deal with the Chaos Anarchy in "Strange Races"; turning my empire over to AI control would probably totally screw everything up. (It involved Georgig giving me some planets so I could build facilities on them for him, and knowing the AI, it'll almost certainly not build the facilities, scrap most of the ones that are already there, fill the planets with mineral miners, and hold on to them for dear life
) So it's not just for my sake but also for Georgig's that I ask that this game be put on hold until either I'm able to play again or you find a replacement player - maybe SJ would be interested; my merchant empire is inspired by his Phantom Syndicate!
Edit: To players in P&N on PBW, take 2 - no, my computer isn't fixed, it's just that I just happened to have SE4 Classic and P&N installed on the family computer as well... some of the shipsets are missing, but I can download them or just live without them for the time being...
