I have no idea how to actuallly make a working map
I don't really know what i'm doing wrong, mainly because the mapedit.pdf doesn't actually what the hell is wrong. I can't make any provinces in my map, i have the .tga, but when i load the map in map editor e just have one province flag located in the bottom left corner. No matter what i do i can't do anything! How do i make provinces in a map?

Provinces are indicated by 1x1 pixel spots of white (RGB value 0,0,0) on the map. You'll have to add appropriately located white dots to your tga file using an image editor.

Ahhh I look away and Gregstrom beats me in with an excellent answer.
But just to "gandalfize" it...
Yes anyone who is reading this. Any image can become a map. You add the tiny white dots everywhere you want a province, and read it into the map editor in the game. It will do its best to place neighbors and such (altho it usually needs tweaking)
An old image of a pirates map maybe? a map from another game? An image of a boardgame? a satellite image?
Maybe the image of one of those girls on the Dom3 ads? Think of the Victory Points you could place.

Wasn't white in RGB 255, 255, 255. Zero paints it black, like in real life.
Also Gandalf, you can talk about cluebat units in the beaver thread innocently and can talk about victory points on dubious swedish advertisement girls? I'm really confused now.

The mapedit.pdf that is included with the patches should quite specifically mention that provinces are formed by white pixels. It even has a section on image file editing.
