campaign: auto-buy
just a small proposal: add the possibility to auto-purchase units in a generated campaign - similar to the option, which is available during generating of battles.
So the player has to cope with the force he gets.

Re: campaign: auto-buy
While I could see limited use for this me gut tells me in 99.5 % of the cases people would rather pick their own forces when playing campaigns . Single battles are fine for that kind of experiment but 10 battles in a row is a bit much when you are handed units you may not want or need or care to use

I agree that most people probably want to pick their forces by themselves. On the other hand, it just would add some more realism to the game.

It would be rather a lot of work on a feature that less than 1% of end users would ever use.
(If that is what you want then why not just send your files to a friend to act as higher HQ for you )

Re: campaign: auto-buy
Another way for those wanting a randomly generated force would be to first start a battle with randomly generated forces, write down what you got, exit the battle, start the campaign and use the list from that battle to make your purchases.
That said, I am not all that fond of random force generation - if I want to go for realism, I prefer to start with an actual historical battalion TOE and then make some additions to it. For example currently I am doing a 1946 "Red Storm" (US vs USSR) with my core force being an armoured infantry battalion (3 regular companies and 1 support company) with some extras to go with the theme (2 SPAA sections, 1 armoured engineer platoon and 1 armoured cavalry platoon).

Re: campaign: auto-buy
I think a much easier solution will be if someone just posted his typical, balanced force list. Maybe it was discussed before what should be chosen in '50s '60s '70s and so on for major countries.

Re: campaign: auto-buy
Have to say I was thinking of doing this... Found resorces on the SOTCW website, trying to process them via the Mind Map generator, the same for FM-100-60-3 or how is it called dealing with the Red Army... If I ever get to creating my website, will try to have one such section
In the meantime, here is for example the organisation of a Soviet Motor Rifle Bn (BTR) from 1980s, as per the US Field Manual:

Re: campaign: auto-buy
That's exactly what I was thinking about.
I have mainly played during WWII period, so for me it is also interesting when AT guns has been replaced with ATGM and other radical changes.
This map should be of greater help to the topic's author than any cripple AI buy assistance.

Do you happen to have a link to other similar OOB charts from the 80's, eg. soviet tank regiment, etc.?
It is extremely well laid out for my purposes and I like it (much better visual representation than most of the organisation of the unit and what equipment is used), but I can only find more recent FM's that aren't laid out in the same way and don't have 80's organisational information.
