Can I make colony ship using bigger ships?

Do I have to use the 300KT colony ship or can I use a bigger ship??(so I can give it more supplies and maybe carry more troops?)

Yes you can use a bigger ship if you want.

Yes. The destroyer class is the same size as a colony ship, and doesn't have engine restrictions.

Light cruisers are a favorite size.

I even use dreads sometimes, put all 3 colony components on and send it anywhere.

I can put multiple colonies and use 1 at a time??

Well, you can only use one of the colony components, since the ship is dismantled when it colonizes the first world.

Having all three modules on a single ship means you don't have to worry about the planet being the wrong type for your ship

Then what is the point in having multiple colony components on the same ship?

Can you transfer it to another ship like cargo??
