Elf Bane bug?
I think I read somewhere here that the elf bane, 1H axe, is bugged and wont perform as intended (i.e. slay magic) Is this confirmed?

Re: Elf Bane bug?
I believe the bug is that a MR roll negates the damage from the axe as well as the slay magic effect, making it a pretty ineffective weapon. Should be doing a good chunk of AP damage even if they save...

Re: Elf Bane bug?
Oh. That's probably not hard to fix with a mod command or two.

Re: Elf Bane bug?
It's not listed in the bug thread... so if this item is bugged then the developers don't know about it.

Re: Elf Bane bug?
I think the same problem is with Infernal sword. It looks very tasty but is not that effective in practice because "Banish to inferno" attack must pass the MR check. It is also stated nowhere, I think.

Re: Elf Bane bug?
A MR check on secondaryeffect does not cancel damage from the primary weapon unless that weapon is also subject to MR check.
Elf Bane is one of those things that can often be useful against high protection SCs/thugs that are magic beings, but since it'äs only AP, not AN, it's possible that the damage inflicted is not enough to pierce protection and if the MR check succeeds, the secondary does nothing either.
Toss in regen, and it might well seem like nothing is happening. I've seen Elf Bane work just fine against lesser stuff for normal damage.

Re: Elf Bane bug?
Could be the bug was something more specific to the situation I encountered it (I had a major fire blessing?). Here's the thread where I mention specifics:

I'm still a bit unclear on the repel mechanics myself, so I need to brush up on those.

Re: Elf Bane bug?
i think elf bane is bugged.
the infernal sword I am unsure of - banish to the inferno shouldn't require an MR check.

Re: Elf Bane bug?
No, I know about that mechanic of the fire blessing, but that doesn't account for the lack of damage from from the primary weapon hit. Also, after I thought about it this thug was not blessed so the fire blessing wasn't present. I was attacking with 27 AP damage against protection of 35 if the shield blocked (though I had a higher attack than the defense so most of the hits should have landed without the shield). 10 hits according to the debug log and no damage was done. The logs indicated the slay magic check was passed then no damage was generated (with no indication of luck or anything like that). It might not be that the damage was negated by the save, but something buggy was going on.
