Awe and Fear on the same unit

Does anyone know if they both function in this circumstance or if it only checks the more powerful of the two abilities?

I think fear actually routs armies. Awe just prevents things from attacking it. So, if the army didn't rout based on a fear affect, the awe would kick in as they attacked.

Awe does not rout armies, you see. Fear, I think, does.

Sometimes +6 awe can be heck of a lot better than 20-30 defence, but it depends on their moral.

That's my conclusion as well. You can see the effect of awe in game - the unit briefly flashes when it fails to attack. Looks really cool on high awe unit. Fear OTOH forces morale checks that lead to rout. I assume that awe does not have an area, but rather it only makes checks more difficult with increase in value.
