PPB Rebalance II: Weapon Mounts Revamp(please read)
OK, so as i said in the previous PPB rebalance topic (poll) some mentioning of SEIII and MoO brought me to an idea which just might be the solution we are all looking for.
I will said right away that the following idea was never implemented, [maybe]suggested and maybe even thought of. It will requie some thinking and work being done by Aaron. If the idea is accepted we will need realy big number of people who will agree to the suggestion to at least try to suggest this to Aaron.
Here we go.....
As someone said the moment that disbalances the weapons in SEIV is the mounts and tonnage.
You might recall the MoO weapons & damage system - beam, projectile, special. I do not remember the exact system.
By now we have three (four?) weapon types which are DirectFire, Seeker and Warhead (and PD?).
So. The big idea is to split the Direct Fire to three (four) weapon types:
*Direct Fire Weapons - beams, DUC etc.
*Projectile Weapons - Torpedoes, some racial, perharps more
*Special Weapons - NSP, PPB, Converting, Component Damaging, Reload Time Increase and whatever else you can think of.
(The fourth weapon type can be the Heavy Weapons meaning all the Heaviest Weapons - WMG, Tachyon Cannon, High Energy Magnifier, Graviton Hellbore, Mental Singularity)
Also an option should be given to a weapon to not be affected by any weapon mounts. Could balance other a little unbalanced weapons like Shield Depleter which makes short work of shields.
Each weapon type will have _seperate_ weapon mounts. My initial idea is:
Normal: current weapon mounts
Projectile: accuracy/damage increase at cost of cost increase and/or size increase. Will finaly make Torpedoes handy
Special: A single weapon mount for the realy large ships - say BC or BB meaning 600-800kT which will act like NORMAL LARGE weapon mount
As i said we need a great majority of people to accept the idea to present it to Aaron.

Re: PPB Rebalance II: Weapon Mounts Revamp(please read)
OK, before replies begin to show up i'll explain myself a little. Revamping the Weapon Mounts would make the PPB a little more dynamic and allow for better balancing while still leaving it a powerful weapon which is easy to research.
The mounts system i've proposed is just a quick made one and the discussion is open.
The point is even though the power of it will be reduced it will still remain a powerful weapon in the mid-game when larger ships and phased shields are far away, and later when bigger, meaner ships come in play and phased shields appear the PPB will still receive some bonus as for being a "special" weapon making it still useful as it is.
I find the system i proposed incomplete, and requing some work. Still, if the thing was done it would not only make the game a little more balanced IMO but open much, much wider horizonts to game modding.

Re: PPB Rebalance II: Weapon Mounts Revamp(please read)
I think what you are proposing is too much just to balance a single weapon. If you boost the research cost to Phased-Weapons then it is more likely that once PPB appears it will arrive at almost the same time as Phased-Shielding, so it turns out to be a short lived super advantage (like a cloak level) and while remaining an effective weapon - it wouldn't be too overpowering.

Re: PPB Rebalance II: Weapon Mounts Revamp(please read)
Captain Kwok: Dont get confused by the topic title.
This idea might balance a serie of weapons because there were opinions that the game will get unbalanced if the PPB will be modified.
This is just a suggestion and it can be pulled off.
Just suggesting

Um, im also starting to feel this is a little too much.
Anyone like the idea or should we forget it and return to more standard answers?

IMO, it would be easier to start coding SE V than patch that big a change into SE IV Gold.
