How do I save ship designs?
When I save an empire to file from the main menu, it asks me "Do you wish to save your designs with your empire?" And I answer yes. When I start a new game, and load that empire as a player, then I can see the unit designs that I made before. Some are greyed out due to insufficient tech. Nice touch.
But the ship designs window is empty. What do I do in order to make ship designs stick, so they don't have to be redone every game?

As I recall, there's a bug that designs that use mounts don't get saved.

Re: How do I save ship designs?
Unlike SE3's excellent design-saving and -loading options, SE4's just isn't worth it. Why clutter your design screen with stuff from 100 years into the game when you can't obsolete it to hide them without them dissappearing for lack of use.
Unless you're researching the same tech path, the designs will need tweaking to work anyways.

Grr. SE3 was such a stronger game. Aaron needs to create a new version of SE3 with the modability of SE4 and 5.

Re: How do I save ship designs?
I have to agree with this. I played some SE3 last week, and there are many elements that just work. Some have reappeared in SE5, but were not in SE4. Yet there are some things that work in SE4 that are not in SE5. If he could have just taken all of the good from all three, maybe we will have SE6

Re: How do I save ship designs?
That's what he tried to do with SE5, but obviously not everyone agrees on the "best" UI feature set (though Aaron does seem to be alone in a few choice areas...).

Re: How do I save ship designs?
Well at some point either to get things added to SE5, or if and when he is considering SE6, we need to make a list of all the specfic things we like from the SE3, 4, and 5.

Re: How do I save ship designs?
There's a long, active discussion of such suggestions over at www.spaceempires5.com.
(In case that link to the thread doesn't work for some reason, the thread is in the Space Empires V General forum, titled "Space Empires V and VI: Expansions and the Future: Tell the Company What's on Your Wish List".)

Re: How do I save ship designs?
Yes, but in reality, I dont' think Aaron actually looks at those threads. Some ispired soul must compile the list of good ideas, and put them in a usable and concise format to email to Aaron. Otherwise it might not get looked at, or even considered.

Re: How do I save ship designs?
That "inspired soul" may as well use that thread as a starting point, since it's already there.
