Default Planet killing weapons, whats the point?

Why spend RP's on planet killing weapons when the every day ship combat weapons will wipe a planet clean of an enemy population?

Got me, unless you are building biological weapons to kill off the population and leave the buildings. You could also use them against a planet with weapon platforms and ships still in action without tying up your ship to ship weapons.

Well, if you are talking about *real* planet killers, there is an advantage:

The enemy can't get that planet back without planet builders of his own, which he may or may not have. And a cloked ship can sneak in, drop the bomb, and sneak out. Rather crippling to have your heavly defended homeword blown to bits, yes?

Planetary napalm kills faster on planets I think. Regular weapons are limited somewhat

The two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.

The damage done by the bombs is quite big for weapons their size, especially when you consider the fairly low cost. They only work against planets, of course, but they are the very best way to take out pesky WP defenses. The later ship-to-ship weapons can deal out even more damage but not for the low cost of the bombs.
