Finding spells by name
This may seem like a silly question, but here goes: How do you find spells by name? Like say "Fireball". How do you find it? Do you have to know what school it is in? As far as I can tell, you have to actually understand the spell BEFORE you can find it. Am I missing something?

Re: Finding spells by name
Darryl,
You aren't missing anything. The documents as they are currently structured do not easily allow you to look up a spell or item without knowing what school it is in and guessing on the approximate level (or in the case of items how powerful it is).
That's just the way the documentation is. An index would certainly be helpful, or a downloadable document with hypertext links. But this is sort of a niche game at the moment...and it's worth learning. Trust me. It's just necessary to suffer a bit more than usual through the learning curve.

One of the best ways to start going about the process of the 'learning curve' is to start thinking of spells by school. You have access to the spells menu on Pretender Creation and so you can know your early spell strategy by knowing and targeting key spells in key schools. Or trying to maximize the most from certain schools for both pretender and mage spells.
The only thing that makes this harder is knowing what type of mages you will have per race. Sunray's compilation is very nice for this and as soon as I am able; the thematic differences reference.

Re: Finding spells by name
It would be great if you could list spells by their path requirements instead of by school, or look them up by name or 'effect'. Like show rituals only, etc.

Total agreement to that! Though, truth be told, I find a lot of spells browsing that I would have missed if finding what I was looking for was easy.

I've made an excel list of all spells, something you can arrange by path, name, cost etc...

Re: Finding spells by name
Wow, great site Sunray!
Would you be interested in an Excel spreadsheet that lists all the items that boost magic level (including what they boost, which spheres are needed to make them and which slot they use on a hero)? Also, would you be interested in an Excel spreadsheet that lists the Nation, theme, gold and resource cost of all bless troops (no summons, no independants, no leaders)?

Re: Finding spells by name
Thanks Sunray! That's just what I need! Just out of curiosity, can you use PHP and MySQL on your webhost? I ask because I'm probably going to import that spreadsheet into a MySQL database and write a simple web interface for it. I'll be running it on a web server I have here, but if you can use PHP you can put it on your web page.
By the way, why is "Bind Pazuzu" crossed out?
