gateway
I had a very strange happen to me in an MP game I'm in.
One of my provinces was under siege by four devils with imps ( the hordes spell).
Castle Walls were breached.
I had many sages in that province so I figured I'd gateway two arch theurgs with a decent army to counter the devils.
Much to my surprise there wasn't a battle between my theurgs and the devils.
The battle took place inside my castle without the armies the theurgs commanded. Naturally without an army my theurgs and sages got slaughtered.
Now I'm wondering, is that the way the spell is supposed to work? is that a bug? or am I misunderstanding something?
Sorry for the long description...

Re: gateway
Where did the arch theurgs go?
Did they appear outside the walls or did they stay at home? Did they just disappear?

Re: gateway
At the said province I had sages inside castle.
I cast gateway with A. theurgs commanding an army.
They appeared inside the castle, with the sages but without their army.
I thought that the "magic" phase is prior to troop movement phase and so reckoned that my theurgs would meet the devils outside the castle.

Troops that move magically into a castle end up inside that castle for all subsequent battles.

Re: gateway
that's not correct Izaqyos, and, if true, a bug.
however i suspect the possibility of some form of user error - are you sure that the Arch Theurg who cast gateway actually went? that the army was at that time under his command? I'm just thinking that if you teleported in a few arch theurgs you may have confused something - like changing a magic item out of the AT who was to cast gateway, thus invalidating his orders, or some such.
unhappily, since domII doesn't keep any past saves, there's no real way to check
one other thought, the target location didn't have a dome of any sort? nor was there any message about losing an AT (to arrows or disease or whatnot)?

Where'd the Theurg's army end up?

Re: gateway
Are you *absolutely* sure you cast 'Gateway'? The behaviour you described suggests that your Arch Theurg teleported or cloud-trapezed.
Or what archaeolept said: wrong Arch Theurg. One w/ no army.

Re: gateway
My A. theurgs didn't teleport or cloud trapeze. Positively sure about that. I paid 10 astral gems each, for the pleasure of GW.
There were no domes either.
The Army they commanded vanished. Simply ceased to exist. I checked that turn's Messages very carefully. There was no message explaining what might have happened to that army, no battle no artillery spell or such.
A mistake such as changing items didn't happen since I am double checking for such mistakes.
Even had I not double checked I'm sure there was no such mistake, simply because previous turn my Arch thuergs weren't in the target province and next turn they were there in the castle (without army).
How I wish there was some way to get that turn's file…
(When a game is hosted on a server, turn files are sent to the clients aren't they? )
...
I did get the answer I wanted though.
I didn't misunderstand the GW spell.
Either I made a mistake or there's a bug.
It makes no matter either way since I don't have the turn file for further investigation.

Re: gateway
Mmmm if there're many archtheurgs and they're named in the same way, perhaps you've messed up.
I gateway many times and always the army followed the commander, but this was til 2.12. After I don't recall any use of mine of gateway.

Re: gateway
if your army simply dissappeared that really seems like a bug.
one of the problems in your description however is that you keep saying "The Army they commanded" and similar phrasings. Armies are only commanded by single commanders. And why would you use gateway on your other arch theurgs? Unless what you are saying is that each of your arch theurgs was commanding a squad of troops and each used gateway and each of their squads disappeared w/out a trace...
