Default Why not DIRECT TO DRIVE?

I have been wanting to purchase both winSPWW2 and winMBT for some time now, but the shipping costs and duty have prevented me from doing so. After these are factored in I would be looking at over $50 for each of these games, and then currency conversion on top (isn't it funny how free trade only works for big companies, not the little guy?).

With many of the big name game producers now going to DIRECT TO DRIVE downloads (where you pay for the game and DL to your drive and burn it yourself) I was wondering if it is possible for these games to go that way?

It would, or should, also reduce the price a bit since the company is not having to pay for packaging.

Any ideas if this is possible?

We have no plans to do a digital download.

The CD version is a physical CD in a DVD case, with an introductory paper manual, which is what most folk were asking for when the game was designed.

Digital download would require some sort of security (such as keys) - which would add to the cost and also need a complete redesign, and the game does not really sell enough copies to make a total redesign (and purchase of some form of keygen software and redesign of the selling process etc)worthwhile. Plus keys would cause all sorts of support problems as end-users lost thiers when moving PC and so on, which the ownership of a physical CD deals with.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. Just to further ponder this (although I accept that it won't be offered DtD), does the cd version have a key code now? If not then why would the DL version need one? All you would have to do is have a person pay before they are able to DL the file (pay pal, visa etc).

If someone wants to copy the cd for another they will do it no matter what. With all the ripping and cracking programs out there I don't think any software is safe.
