Default Astral Corruption

Will mixed blood-non blood castings/forgings get you targeted?

Does having blood magic reduce the chance of becoming dinner, even if you're casting/forging isn't blood related at all?

Will certain paths get you targeted worse than others?

What do you usually consider 'safe' as a blood nation with Astral Corruption up?

I played in a MP game a while back that Ironhawk hosted and one of the players cast a very well backed up astral corruptio n and this is what I observed..

I am uncertain about mixed forgings but I would bet lots and lots of gold that the non blood part will get you targeted.

The only thing that seemed to prevent becoming dinner was to not get horror marked and just about the only way to do that in the situation was to cast only blood spells/forgings. One could also escape if you could slay your horror attacker in one shot or it would mark ya most likely. Then you were doooooomed.

It seemed that there was a percentage chance of being targeted by a horror if you cast a non blood spell. That chance seemed to be very roughly equivalent to 10% per level of magic you used but I don't have truly hard numbers. It was definitely the case that casting bigger magic=bigger chance of attack.

The only safe course of action as a blood nation with AC up is to quickly kill everyone or they will kill you. Really no other choices. Although in the one game it happened in that player lived till the end due to having some other very well backed up "sucks to be you" in his dominion spells going on. As they weren't winning we all just suffered a lot till the game ended.

The following is just my expereince with AC. Others might be able to clarify/correct me.

I'm pretty sure that if your chances of getting pegged by a horror with AC depends on how many gems you spend cast/forging. It doesn't matter if it's mixed blood forging - in only matters how many gems you are putting into it (the amount of slaves doesn't factor into it). Gems saved via forge bonus/site bonus don't factor into the chance - only the actual amount of gems you spend.

Having Blood Magic doesn't matter.

All non blood paths are treated the same.

When you say safe do you mean what is the maximum amount of gems you can spend and be safe? Actually you always have at least a small chance of being attacked if you spend any gems. I'll usually feel pretty safe if I spend less than 5 gems on an item (5%). 5-10 makes it unlikely (15%?) you'll get a horror. 10-20 means you have a good chance of attracting one (45-50%?). Anything over 20 will almost always call a horror (and a Doom Horror most likely).

That all being said I'll NEVER risk a powerful/imporant caster if AC is up (or I think it will go up) unless I don't have a choice. Even if you script to defend yourself against a horror - weird things happen (like being attacked twice) and it just isn't worth the chance of losing a vital mage for a small item/spell.

A whole separate thread could be devoted to the best way to fight/avoid the horrors you've attracted.

Any idea if having a forge bonus helps protect you from AC when crafting? Or a site bonus when casting? Because of the reduced number of gems I mean.

So I imaging spells cast via items do not attract horrors at all?

No, I've never had anything cast via an item attract a horror via AC.
