Never played PBW but...
I've never used PBW before but was thinking about maybe trying it out but for the most part I'm clueless as to how it works. Can anybody clue me in. The only type of multiplayer SE3, SE4, or SE4Gold game I've played is all players on one computer. Thanks in advance.

Re: Never played PBW but...
I'm sure you will get a lot of help.
My $0.02, Practice, Practice, Practice,
PBW combat is Strategic, not tactical, or tactical-auto. Tactical-auto is like strategic but the defender is not always the first to fire.
T-A is good for gaining knowledge. Strategic is good practice (can view on next turns combat replay).
PBW turns is done in simultaneous mode. Alone at home choose Hot Seat and Simultaneous turn. I suggest you play at least two empires in the same game, just to get the feel of it.
The PBW site is very user friendly, and there are games for newbies. There are different Versions of SE4, but each games Version is documented.
Enjoy

Re: Never played PBW but...
Tileus, I was leary at first too, because I didn't know how it operated.
The way it works, when everyone uploads their turns (a fairly painless proceedure in itself) the PBW server runs the turn, and sends everone an email of the result for their next turn. It is zipped, so you need winzip or another similar program to open it, then you just save it to your savegame file within SEIV and play the turn normally.
Every game has its own time limit. Most common are 24, 48 and 72 hours. Some games are automatically set to run the turn when the time elapses, others wait till all have uploaded. Don't abuse either option. In the second, the host may kick you from the game if you do it too often. In both cases, if the turn runs before you upload, the AI will play your turn for you. Can you spell DISASTER! It will mess up your empire more than you thought possible.
Anyway, those are the mechanics. Hope it helps.

Thanks, and I am well aware of what ai can do to your empire due to the ministers option. I have had many a research error when I was feeling lazy...

Re: Never played PBW but...
I don't think you actually understand what he means by DISASTER, how about changing all your designs to 1 DUC lvl 1 and 2 engines for fun? or declaring war on everyone, including your parter who happens to have a big fleet stopping through that, now at war, annihilates your homeworld? Or what about sending all your ships into a black hole?
nevermind the AI. With the NO AI MOD that isn't a problem. PBW is the bomb seriously, nothing really equates to it.
