What program works best with SHPedit? I have paintshop pro 3 but I haven't been able to get it to work with the palette. Before Windows 7 I used another program (I forget what it was) but it worked fine.
Just curious, since I would like to get back into editing some flags, etc.
You can use any graphics editor that can create BMP images.
I like to use Paint.net, which is free and just as good as Photoshop for most purposes (but you have to have Windows with .Net Framework).
A lot of people like Gimp, which is also free.
To use the correct palette, you can create a BMP image of the palette, and copy and paste the palette onto your canvas. Then use an 'eye dropper' to choose the colours you want.
To create a palette BMP
1.Open SHP Edit then 'load a color palette'.
2.Then 'save SHP collage as BMP' (the button right under 'load a color palette').
If it's for the Menu flags the entire image must be 40x25. The flag would be 37x22 and then there's the 3 pixel shadow.
If it's for 'on map' units the whole image must be 35x35. The vanilla 'on map' flags are about 21x12, with the rest of the image invisible pink.
Download an original flag, using SHP Edit, to a BMP file and you will see the original sizes and layout.
Also, don't forget that after you have uploaded your BMP, reload the new SHP file with SHP Edit and then hit the 'SP Fix' button, and the 'Show' button, and then adjust the flag to the correct position, and then hit the 'Write' button.
