Down
I will be off line and un-available for maybe a week. I have all the signs of a impending HDD failure and all the fun that comes with that. Been through this before and now I get to discover all the programs I've come to rely on that I just take for granted

Re: Down
Good luck.
Try to clone the drive before it dies. (something I do)

Re: Down
Second that saves serious agro as you just switch the boot up sequence to the other drive or physically swap them.

Re: Down
Got the basics back and the data was saved ( including all the game data ) but now I have to "re-discover" all the things I just used and didn't think anymore about. Right now it feels like I'm using someone else's machine........everything is just "off" a bit ( like keyboard repeat rate ). I've had this happen in the past but in the past I didn't have near the amount of information and programs to re-install.............it's going to be a long weekend

Re: Down
Always fun.
While back the voltage regulator on my motherboard went bad and the resulting power surge fried the vid card, my storage hard drive (the SSD survived but was wiped), and CPU.
When I got it back I not only had to reinstall everything bun in a few cases remember just what the hell it was I was using in the first place.

Yep, that's what I'm doing now....finding all the little things I never thought about that are now "missing". I figure about a week to get it to the point it doesn't feel like I borrowed someone else's computer. Good new the big things are intact..........it's sorting out the little details that are the PITA

Re: Down
A tech show I listen to on the radio suggests using a free program called Belarc Advisor. It creates a list of every program on your computer, plus lists out all your hardware. It can also check if your security is up to date. The idea being that if you lose your drive you know what you had.
I have used it occasionally, on other computers, I think I will run it now on my current computer. Of course, I guess you would need to print out the results or save it to a USB!
