Ranks
I play my own PBEM campaign, and this often involves ‘carrying over’ key survivors from a previous battle to subsequent battles. I track this “core” using a spreadsheet, but track them on the battlefield by renaming officers of the same unit type, regiment and rank. Sometimes I even promote deserving officers.
In light of this, I have a few questions about ranks.
These are the ranks listed for the British in the data file:
Pvt.
L/Cpl.
Cpl.
Sgt.
2nd Lt.
Lt.
Cpt.
Maj.
Lt. Col.
Col.
Brigader
I’ve noticed a few changes – for the better – in the ranks recently. For example: I see that transport platoons and detachments are now sensibly commanded by an NCO rather than an Officer, and even some armoured sections have a Sgt as CO.
I assume a sniper is the only time we will see a Pvt?
Where am I likely to see a L/Cpl? I don’t recall seeing a Lance Corporal in the game.
My observation is that Cpl seems more common in infantry companies with Sgt being quite rare; and Sgt and Cpl are more evenly split in armoured squadrons. Is this correct?
2nd Lt seems less common than Lt. Is there a 3 or 4 to one ratio of Lts to 2nd Lts?
It seems like a company commander has about a 50/50 chance of being a Capt or a Major (which I like a lot) am I right about this?
Under what circumstances am I likely to see a Colonel or Brigadier.
NB. It’s spelt “Brigader” in the data file…
Andy and Don, any info. you have on how the somewhat random assignment of ranks works, would be useful.
Thanks in advance.
