Some questions on Pillage

for a pillage,is it necessary to do in ennemy province? or we can do also in my province?because they kill many people by pillage and some money is lost by that, exact?
does i have to put many soldiers to do the pillage to obtain many money?in which circunstances i have to do the pillage?
