I think that this brings to light a problem with modding in general. That problem, IMHO, is that changes implemented via mods are unofficial and for that reason alone don't get much air-time.

The other reason we don't hear much from mods is that you can't use them on fully-automated servers like mosehansen's.

Neither of these problems are suffered by an official patch.
