It looks pretty and all but it won't stop me from buying SEV.

One big point made in the article: No multi-player, maybe added in a future expansion. For all it's glitz if it can't do any type of multi-player then SEV will beat it hands down.

The article also caused me to ask a question, will it be moddable? If not then I don't want it. If I have to jump through hoops or wait for specialized software to mod it, I don't want it.

Will the software designers be as open to the community as Aaron is with us? I doubt it.

Actually, answer to both questions is yes.
Designers of GalCiv2 promised to release tools they use to public as well.
And they are open to community; actually they post in public forums on daily basis.

But they are still not real competition. Like Geo said, one game will benefit from success of another.

I won't be buying it then, I won't buy Expansions for Games just because they rushed the game out originally. Patches I Don't Mind, but Expansions are just patches that you get charged for.

Saying that I was playing the Political Machine which was also released by Stardock, and I'm using Windowsblinds on my pc, so far I'm impressed by their software.

But SEV for me, I have a student budget, And I know which out the two I would buy
