Could someone post the full details on how to get on this particular IRC channel? I think I can handle getting and setting up an IRC client on my own, but where do I need to connect to?

make the server: irc.freenode.net <--that will connect to a random freenode server.

After you get on freenode goto #D&D channel. If you are using mIRC just type: /join #D&D and hit enter.
