How can those Solar Generators in crystalline tech generate minerals, organics, and radioactives from sunlight? Does it convert energy into matter in accordance with E=mc^2? It must collect a LOT of sunlight to generate any significant amount of matter...

Boarding parties at least should have some organics. People are organic. They are people (sort of).
