We're glad you like the game. We will be releasing WinSPWW2 sometime in the next couple of months then taking a bit of a break and then there will be a WinSPMBTv3 release probably sometime in September or October but it depends on a number of factors........we might even get it out earlier

Don:

Iīm not in a hurry since wspmt is all the wargaming I need right now (until death take us apart lol) you guys can take all the time you need, itīs done when itīs done, just please tell me to expect some AI improvement included in v 3.0.

Some AI picklist (I believe thatīs the way itīs called) balance would be welcomed as well, even with tank heavy optn set on, the AI seems to be buying lots of foot infantry (more than tanks) making most computer-purchased battles (I know I can purchase AIīs toys) feel more like guerrilla warfare than armored battles.

Until now I have the experience or the feeling (Im not sure) that the AI tends to buy more infantry than armor when itīs given less than 4000 points, I once gave it 20,000 points and came up with LOTS of mbtīs, much more than infantry, so things were still unbalanced even that way. Or is it just me?

Does it have something to do with the printed manual suggesting newcomers to start with 4-5000 point battles?

Cheers

It depends on period really.

4-5000 points, tank heavy will not buy much in the way of 500 point M1 in 2000, but will buy lots of 90 point Centurions in 1950. And I think the manual suggests 4-5000 points in the 70s as well, for beginers, and not tank heavy.

And many modern forces will be built to buy platoons or sections of MBT anyway, as they are so hideously expensive, and only to buy larger units on huge amounts of free points. All armies will of course buy infantry on the round out, to spend the last scraps of points left over. And will buy leg infantry on the defence, bcause it is sensible for the AI to do so.

It also depends on the opposition - guerilla armies will not have any useful "tank heavy" option really. You won't see the Mujadeen or VC taking more than a few extra armed jeep things or light tanks, if they have them. It also depends on the opposition pairing - if you have the low-tech infantry army, the AI pick may well be a "light" pick in that case as being the sensible mix against such (UK AI pick vs Argentina in the Falklands I think would be such a case).

"Tank Heavy" therefore usually is used in conjunction with large points allocation (for the era), and on an army that has armour as an historical option. Because you want loads of expensive toys, you need to give the AI the means to pay for them.

Which army do you have a problem with the AI not picking enough tanks armour heavy, and at what date?. That sort of information makes figuring things out much easier

Cheers

Hi Andy, thanks a lot for the reply.

Well, it seems that AI picklist balance depends on a number of factors, though I now realize I had a close idea.

Eventhough I should take a closer look considering the info given in your reply, I still think things could be a little more balanced, but it could be just my personal point of view.

From the "non-guerrilla" countries I can recall right now, china and mainly Japan tends to use insane amounts of infantry in 2005 7000 point battles, and in general my perception is that the AI relies a lot on foot infantry. There are a couple of other countries Iīm not sure about any more because they could be considered as "mbt scarce" as you said it does influence the picklist selection.

Anyway, my main question was: is there going to be any AI improvement in the next wspmbt relase?

probably just the WW2 changes brought over for which reaction shots to take, targeting of vehicles, and if it is not already in the release version, APC withdrawal and ferrying-forward of troops.

Cheers
Andy
