Re: AranMP game (renamed)
Important notice!!:
Looks like R'lyeh just went AI. While this is definitely a more ellegant way to leave that to just disappear, I am a bit peeved that Oskari didn't check first for a sub...his nation was in a not so bad situation after all.
I only noticed this after hosting the turn (no explanation was sent with the file) & not seeing his name displayed, nor the .trn file when sending the replies to all.
Generally speaking, I am against solutions that require reverting to a previous copy (as the dice have basically rolled), but will consider it if all & everyone of you ask for such (assuming we get the pass from the original player). Otherwise, we will go from here and will have to deal with the rampaging AI suddenly showing up.
Cheers,
Pepe

Re: AranMP game (renamed)
I would *definitely* like a rollback. I had a NAP and quasialliance with r'lyeh, including gem and item donations... a few turns warning that the NAP etc was not in effect would have been nice.
Otherwise I'm going to have difficulty doing much of anything, with my very strat move 1 heavy army.
Explicit treachery I wouldn't have minded, but going borg unannounced is even worse, since it is not anticipatable, much less punishable.
I suggest we try to get a sub.

Re: AranMP game (renamed)
Yeah, quitting without announcing and letting the AI run crazily is kind of crazy... I'll go for a rollback too.
I should mention that Ryleh's situation is, from my angle, worse than from other people's angles; as such, any new player (if one could be found) would not really have a chance of winning. From what I see.

Re: AranMP game (renamed)
Those can be the most fun and instructive for a someone to get into. No chance of winning so no ego bruising. But you can see how someone else made choices, what a multiplayer game is like, a chance to try some really off-the-wall tactics without "wasting" a game. Some newbies would do it to become almost a "tourist" to a running multiplayer game, some who feel they are advanced players would for a chance to try and clean up a bad situation. Either way there is no looking bad if they lose.
(feel free to use any of the above when you post for a new player)

Re: AranMP game (renamed)
Sorry all,
I have had a difficult weekend with wife & kid being ill, and have not had much time to sit down and review our problem with a clear mind.
We have two players that favour a rollback to previous turn & getting a sub. A third one has expressed a dessire to play on, while the fourth said nothing but already sent his .2h file implicitly stating that he's ok with the situation. My mixed feelings have already been written in my previous post.
As I said, I think that a sub would have been a better solution than the AI is if we were still in the previous turn, but a rollback is not something I am going to do without a consensus, wars have likely been fought & random events have been rolled. This would be in my book a very extreme solution, only to be applied in a situation of 100% agreement by the players.
Thus it looks like some of us will have to pay renewed attention to borders that were kind of safe until now, so be it. The AI will always be a less cunning opponent than a new player not subject by previous agreements would be anyway, and being R'lyeh's pretender immobile prevents the nation from getting him killed & going ballistic vs one particular player.
Cheers,
Pepe

Re: AranMP game (renamed)
Sent a note to Ywl asking if he wants the ulm seat back... I got into MP for the tactical improvement and diplomacy, ... spending the rest of the game fighting an AI with a strat move 1 army is not really that interesting to me....
If we don't get a response I will, of course, continue, but I think it would be better to switch out if possible.
