Default A question for photoshop-savvy people out there

Whenever I try to make a map, the basic terrain has way too much contrast. Since I like to aim for a Silent Seas-like style, this is sort of high-priority. Is there any way I can make the terrain colors (Wasteland, plains, etc) fade together a bit nicer? I'm sort of new at Photoshop...

Well, if its contrast that's troubling you, there's always Image>Adjustments>Brightness\Contrast

UninspiredName--you can also use either a premade script-fu or a filter. They can do more varied contrasts depending on perceived needs.

The filters are good for the 'canvas' look. In fact, I'm sort of suspicious that's what they used for Silent Seas/Glory of the Gods. I can't find any to make the background meld together, though. I'll try to mess with the contrast setting, but I would need to turn it ridiculously high. Can you do it for only certain layers so the trees/mountains/rivers remain the same?

You can change contrast on a per layer basis in the Gimp, so I would imagine you can in Photoshop. Choose the layer in quesiton, then apply the change. Make sure you are in a layer format (i.e. not targa) when you do it.
