OT: The Shiva Option
Wow! Just finished the book. What a series Weber has put together. Having just started SEIV Gold 2 weeks ago the book really took on a life of it’s own as so many of the things within the novel are easily seen within this game. Wonder if the System Which Must Be Concealed will spur a follow-on novel.
Still looking for a “bugs” mod in this or Starship Troopers universe. I’m still too busy learning the ins and outs to tackle doing a mod but maybe some day.
Going to read John Ringo's GUST FRONT, the sequel to A Hymn Before Battle. The Posleen race sounds like another Version of Weber's Bugs!

Re: OT: The Shiva Option
Yes, this series was most excellent, I do hope he writes another sequal but during the writing of th Shiva Option he had Steve White do a lot of the work as he is quite busy on other projects, (was so stated on his and the Baen websight) did you read the other 3 books of this series? Insurrection, In Deaths Ground, Crusade??

Re: OT: The Shiva Option
Yes, I did read the others. In fact In Death's Ground inspired me to go out and buy The Shiva Option in hardback. Couldn't wait until it came out in paperback.
In my 40+ years of sci-fi reading this series was one of the most enjoyable. Looks like the new computer game Starshatter will be a bit smaller in scale than SEIV Gold but might be interesting. And it sounds like MOO3 is mess if the forum is to be believed.

I played the demo of Starshatter and I'd say it's far closer to Battlecruiser 3000 than it is to MOO or SE4.
I have the ISW-4 scenario book for the Starfire game so I knew how the Arachnid war played out a while ago. Nevertheless, I still plan to get the The Shiva Option (probably this weekend) and I'm sure it will be a great read.

Re: OT: The Shiva Option
Insurrection happens later in the official Starfire timeline than "In Death Ground" and "The Shiva Option", and the Federation, Republic, etc. think the Bugs are dead, so I'm guessing the System Which Must Be Concealed hasn't found a warp point leading back into known space and they are most likely never going through that closed warp point in their old System Which Must Be Defended, so I doubt they'll be found for awhile.

Re: OT: The Shiva Option
Gentlemen,
David Weber is a fine author. I am seriously enjoying his Harrington novels.
More importantly though, I recently went to http://www.baen.com/library/ and took a look at their FREE Online books from many excellent Sci-Fi authors.
Cheers!
