Default Weird Worlds & Lion (Mac OS 10.7)

With the upcoming release of the latest update to Mac OS X, 10.7 Lion, Weird Worlds will no longer work with current Macs.

This is due to the fact that the Mac version of Weird Worlds was written for older Motorola PPC processors and not the Intel CPUs currently used by Macs. Mac OS X 10.7 Lion will discontinue the use of the Rosetta software package that allowed Intel Macs to run software designed for PPC Macs.

The other Digital Eel game distributed by Shrapnel Games, Brain Pipe, is a Universal Binary Mac application. This means that it can run on either PPC or Intel processors without the need for the Rosetta software.

Are there any plans to update Weird Worlds to a Universal Binary application, or even an Intel native version? Or is Weird Worlds for Mac now a DEAD game, and no longer supported?

Thanks for bringing up the subject here, hopefully folks from Digital Eel and Shrapnel will see your post.

I sure hope they update the game to work with the newer machines. It's one of my all-time favorites, and definitely the game I've put the most work into modding. It would be a real shame if I couldn't play it any more. I know I'll hold out updating or replacing this computer as long as I reasonably can just so I don't lose the ability to play Weird Worlds whenever the mood strikes me.

Given that they recently came up with an iPad version, perhaps there's interest for the Eel folks to do some work to keep the game around.

This is one of my favorite games! The performance was kinda poor with Rosetta, but it was still fun. Now with Lion there's no support at all. That sucks. It's time for an update, folks!!

I just migrated to OsX from Windows and was excited to see that one of my top favourites games ever works with OsX. However, I just found out that unfortunately it won't work with Lion.

It would be great if you can release it as well on App Store - with rather low number of games in there I can see Weird Worlds being an instant hit!

Oh and happy birthday on your recent 10th birthday

Best,
Radek

@radek:

I've seen it on the App Store. My recollection is that for whatever reason it didn't come up when I searched for "Weird Worlds", but _did_ come up when I searched for "Infinite Space" - despite that oddness, it was definitely WW:RTIS (not SAIS) that was listed there. Also, IIRC it's available for iPad but not iPhone.
