Deadstar, what is the source for the pic of your current avatar? The more info I get the better I can taylor-make your new avatar. If you have any ideas feel free to throw them at me!

Dave, (If I may call you Dave), That behind the the blue background, yes, it was meant litterally.

Although in Front of the background is better. Also, don't mean to be picky here, but could you take out the combadge out of

and replace it with the diamond on my current avatar?

TerranC, the combadge/insigna on your original avatar is too elongated to fit well within the design of the avatar pic I posted earlier. (it should fit within the bubble in the top right of the image, I tried both a horizontal and virtical Version and the combadge had to be shrunk way too much to fit!).. I found what I think is a good/new look that includes your combadge and keeps the feel of my old design...
