Looking at some comments above I now see that I should also thank the anonymous Armageddon casters. It certainly did speed things up and enabled teleporting victory at all.
Lolomo:
The first armageddon was a big surprise for me too. I really thought it was DrP casting it, going for domination in the east [I expected it to be a preparation to attack you]. I lost probably 200-250 mages to armageddons, after 1st one [and Jim's reaction to them, with a promise to add soem more from Helheim], I did some tests and forged lots of fire plates, as protection from it lowered mortality by about 75% [so I could protect at least some mages]. I lost Forge Hammer and Forbidden Light because of Armageddon, but managed to reforge it [I wonder if anyone noticed them].
I couldn't wish at the moment of first armageddon. I had Forbidden Light on one of my mages - I put it there to forge Gate Stone. After I reforged it I was able to put it on S5 tartarian.
If situation would look otherwise, I'd probably have a war with Lanka [as teleportation attack would be too easy to defend], that would take some. Hard to say if one of us would get 15 caps before one of the eastern powers that way.
I hope I get enough time to write good AAR later
