Fellow 'noob' and Moo3 reject.
The TDM-Mod. Set to high AI bonus and large galaxy. Get an enemy fleet of 80 dreadnoughts breaking down your door and laying waste to you. It keeps happening to me...

A bit off topic, but can anyone answer how I can increase the number of planets/systems allowed in game? I remember reading it somewhere, but can't seem to find it.

To increase number of systems: edit settings.txt file (in data folde). Max. number of systems is 255. You may need a bigger file of system names. Few mods have such files.
To increase number of planets: Easy way - use Fyron's mod Hard way - edit system_types.txt file. It is a bit tedious but not really difficult.

Not only is this a great game with terrific and continually evolving mods, but the community is incredibly helpful. They STILL haven't gotten tired of my questions, even after a year or two.

Re: Space Empires IV Newbie
But I must admit,
I personally enjoy Proportions style of play, and I like P&N as well.
Although; I can't get to them as much, now
Because my teenage son can't take a break from the Adamant Mod.
Not even to get his School work and chores done

After the horrible debacle of MOO3 I saw a post for this game and wish I would have found it a lot sooner.
My question is what MOD's do you recommend for single player against AI? I don't have the time to do multiplayer so any mod that would make this game better for single player I would like to hear it. Also any combinations of mods.
Thanks in advance. Now back to the demo while I await my CD.

Hi, HercMighty.
I also recommended TDM.
That was my first mod I played. It is even, much better now! It has the many similar characteristics of base Space Empires 4 but with a much more improved AI and many more goodies that you won’t find in a se4 base game.
However, it may be best you start at the Easy level (Computer Bonus: NONE}, at least until you get your feet wet
Remember, some add-ons may increase complexity, it may be best to play TDM, at virgin first. To get your feet wet.
~
I also strongly recommend Proportions; from PvK, this mod is extremely user friendly, as well
~
Also it is recommended. if you are plan to install other MODs over TDM or other, check the read me files or ask some one, familiar with the mod before hand, otherwise the Data files may not be Compatible and overwriting them may corrupt Mods or Currant game
I hope you Enjoy Space Empires over the years as we have
John
