my pretender -- vanished!?!?

Okay, that happened to me a LONG time ago and i came here for answers. I had already started another game but the one in question i had spent 13-16 hours on and POOF, my God vanished. Maybe it is a bug then, it hasn't happened again so far luckily. I had 3/4 of the map with temples and priests and POOF...i was new to the game so i restarted and had no save file .Oh, he wasn't dead either !

Was it also involving sneaking the pretender and getting caught and running away?

No, it was the POD going from one territory with a Castle and Temple to the next, i had a few other armies with him but the ai had sent a huge force at the same time and i "failed to capture" the province. The battle movie did not show him die nor did it say it in the log. All the surving commanders and mercenaries showed up at the two adjacent provinces but the POD was gone...not dead and in the HOF . 3/4 of the map, which i owned, just went independant and i lost but no death...no message...nada .

Maybe because he likes the spam all adresses will receive which can be gather from websites, forums and google archive by scripted robots/spiders ?!!??!
