Re: Are you tough enough to be the "King of the Hill"?
6. The player did everything right, but the .plr file got corrupted on its way to the PBW server (either via upload or e-mail).

Yes, the only reason I didn't mention this is that I have never actually seen this be the cause of the AI playing the turn for someone. Theoreticaly it is possible. I consider it in my list of things that might cause problems but I have never seen, like bugs in the SE4 or PBW code. In reality though every time I have seen this happen the result is either the game crashes during processing, or it processes and the resulting .gam file is corrupted and cannot be opened.
The five I have mentioned are all causes that I have seen, and every case I have ever investigated has been at least very strongly indicated to be one of the five.

Re: Are you tough enough to be the "King of the Hill"?
Although now I can add a new one.
If the player plays his turn with a newer Version then the host (PBW) is using, the host will reject the .plr file. And during upgrade to a new Version, the player still must use the old Version until after the turn has been processed with the new Version.

Re: Are you tough enough to be the "King of the Hill"?
Same answers as always. If you want me to check it out I can, but I need specifics. What game, what turn, what player. This the number one reported error on PBW. Anytime anyone gives me specifics I check it out. I have done so dozens of times. I cannot say that I will never find some sort of bug, or some sort of server problem. But I have never found one yet. In every case that I have been given the specific info needed to check it out it has turned out the player inadvertantly uploaded the wrong .plr file. This can be due to a number of problems.
1. The player was the Last to upload their turn, and when they uploaded the turn PBW started processing immedietly. Sometimes the website takes longer to refresh than others, but the PBW server itself almost always begins processing the turn immedietly. This lag can cause a player to hit the upload turn button a second time thinking their file didn't upload. This will result in the same .plr file being uploaded for their next turn. Be patient, don't hit the button twice, check the turn log to make sure this isn't happening to you. (Number one cause of this problem)
2. The player downloaded the turn, but forgot to unzip it, or unzipped it to the wrong directory. And when they played the turn they did not notice it was the same turn they had already played. The result is uploading a non-current .plr file.
3. The player downloaded, unzipped and played the turn correctly, but when uploading browsed to the wrong directory and uploaded an old .plr file. This happens a lot when a game is changed to a different game or mod Version. I suggest deleting old .gam and .plr files if you upgrade Versions.
4. The player did not realize they missed the turn and so was playing an old turn they received by email.
5. The player did everything else correctly, but instead of hitting end turn, accidentally hit close game from the game menu. This sounds unlikely, but I have done it myself so I know it is possible.

Darkhorse, regarding the changing pics everytime you load the game. Did you download the shipset that I have selected? Or downloaded the shipset that was seletec in the other games? If you do not have the shipset I am using for this game the computer will randomly select a race file and use that for the ships. If you have downloaded and have the shipset on your computer I do not know what is going on.

Okay I went and downloaded the shipset; now tell me where to stick it. Er.. well... you know what I mean

Unzip it in the Pictures/Races folder of your root SEIV 1.84 directory. The path leading to the shipset should be something like Seivwhateverdirectory/Pictures/Races/Name of shipset.
That should do it.

We got it figured out. Somehow we uploaded games using 1.84 before the game was updated. That caused the turns to be ignored by the server and resulting in AI playing the turns.
And no he wasn't intelled. I should know since I'm the one he is playing against.

The only reason I remembered it was that I recently saw it happen twice to the same person, in two different games. When I tried to troubleshoot the games offline, SE IV couldn't load the corrupt files.
