I honestly stopped watching SG1 a while back, (Still love the earlier ones mind you ) I watched the latest seasons and felt pretty disappointed, especially by the Ori storyline.
For me, it should have ended at the end of Season 8 (That two parter was one of my favourites)
I think the show has evolved. I like the earlier - episodic - nature of the show, but a developing storyline has got to be more interesting to write rather than "reset" back to status quo at the end of every episode.
I remember an interview with the shows producers where they stated that they originally wanted to rename the show "Stargate Command" with season 9 and onwards to represent the show as a continuation spinoff of the original show. The Syndication Networks refused that change for fear of confusing fans.
Why is Sci-Fi channel so stuck on Stargate? It's almost a miracle if there isn't a block of episdoes on Mondays and Fridays. I'm not a fan of the show (loved the movie), so I don't see the attraction. There are other shows out there that fans can watch, but not at 2:00 am (like Battlestar Galactica). I'm surprised they're actually going to have a new series on Tuesday nights: Eureka (not counting ECW, which I still don't understand why it's on this channel). I wish whoever is running the show would hire a geek to see what fans would really like.
