Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
Specifically speaking,.. the avatars are 48x48 pixels, the file format can be .gif or .jpg. Yes shrapnel does permit the uploading of .bmp's but this file format is not supported for avatars.
You can use a larger sized pic and the image will automatically be rescaled to 48x48, but I found it best to do the reducing myself rather thatn leave it to the forum software.
As for file size, most if not all my gifs are 3k or less. the animated gifs are generally under 24k (I don't plan on posting too many of these!)
Cheers!

Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
Well, that certainly helps a lot. (Well, it seems to help...I'm sure I'll find a way to get confused )
Thanks everyone!

Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars

Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
Well, it's simple, but it's mine. I guess it doesn't show up on previous Messages.
Hopefully, everyone sees the same "military" color I see on the forum (off-green-brown-olive-type color )

Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
Yeah, David, transparency turned out being a bit tough. Well, not the actual transparency part. I wanted just the initials (which I post on my artwork...well, that's what I call it ). But when I gif'd it, it left a white-gray border around the edges of the letters...anti-aliasing, I'm guessing...but it was ugly. I tinkered with it to get just the black stroking on the lettering to appear, but to no avail. I changed to a lavender background for it and it looked OK. But I still wanted just the lettering to appear. That's when I tried copying the background color here (not noticing that it alternated when reading Messages )
I sure wish I had a cure for the "ghosting" of the edges, though, since I'd really like to have it by itself. (I saw one somewhere that someone had like that and it didn't have "nasty" edges.
Tks for the tip and comments!

Oh, and to bore any readers of this message to death , here is an example of some of my "art":
(you can see my telltale siggy in lower left that I tried to incoporate to my avatar)
PS: Please, no loud laughter...mild chuckling, however, permitted

Ok, how about quiet laughter? No, did you do that image in some kind of program? If so, you did a great job. That is a very nice image indeed. What program did you use to do it in? Or is it a screenshot of something?

Re: OT: The House of 1001+ Avatars
Well, it's not like I'm a freehand artist or anything, so I have to use tools to help me. 3D objects (purchased) and "arranged" in Poser (app) and rendered in Vue d'Esprit (app). Then a little "juggling" in Photoshop.
I'm not very good at it, but it's passable. But doesn't compare to lots of others that I've seen.
Tks for the quiet laughter...
