Default Obsolete ships

When you make a ship 'obsolete' - it says that these will be deleted. Is this deletion occurring just in the present game or in your *.emp file as well.

The .emp file isn't touched until you save to it.

Hmmm. That does not bode well. Because if I make another design ...

Yea! I've researched TUBS!!!

... and save to my emp file, then my previous Versions of BUCKETS which I've checked as obsolete (so as NOT to clutter up the list) will disappear from my peerless *.emp file! Come next game I'll have to redesign all my BUCKETS again! Bummer!

A design will be deleted when all of the following conditions are true:
  • The design is marked obsolete
  • There are zero vehicles of that type owned by any empire in the game
  • The turn is being processed. (Press end turn)
  • A new year is starting. (EG: 2406.0)

Obsolete ship designs can be saved in .emp file.
When you save empire, you save all _visible_ designs. Thus, set "show obsolete" in design sheet. They all will be saved.

There is a catch though. Some _very_ old obsolete designs can get lost during the game. I do not know what is the time(?), research level (?) threshhold for becomming "completely" obsolete.

Bumping this topic because of relevance to discussion in the "next patch" thread...

It would be nice if we could just 'archive' the designs instead of obselete. Then we could still hide them in our build queue lists AND save them to our .emp files.... Just a thought....

Well, I am the one having the problem mentioned in the patch thread. I have met all those pre-reqs for design deletion, and the old obsolete desings are not getting deleted. There is another factor SOMEWHERE, but I can't find it. Some of my designs do get deleted, others that should do not. the only difference I have seen between the two (deleted and non-deleted) in the problem designs are ship that I have retrofitted.
There has been a lot of good suggestions and questions, but all has been to no avail. The reason I posted in the patch/upgrade thread is even if I figure this problem out, it still would be nice to have a DELETE DESIGN button. There is an open slot on the right anyway for a button.

I didn't do the remane ship idea I had, mainly because one of the obsolete designs that was retrofitted and wont go away is a small transport, and I don't even have any of those.

Also, I have not had ANY ships in this game get captured, so having one owned by the AI being the problem is not it.

The designs that have failed to be deleted include:
1 Sm Sat (which makes no sence at all)
6 Light Cruiser designs
4 Cruisers
2 Frigates
1 Sm Transport
3 Med Transports.

I have had some of these designs pass the .0 mark more than 4 times.

I have had other designs that did delete. i can't figure out what the problem is, nor a work-around to get them gone. As I said, I can leave them obsoleted, and not have to look at them, except when a situation arises that i have to uncheck hide obsolete. But that is not the point. I hate clutter, esp when dealing with ship designs. And since the game HAS some type of design deletion, the designers agree there is a need for it.

Perhaps, this goes back to previous problems/bugs players had with design stats. I don't know. Sure wish I could find out.

1) E-mail Aaron about the bug. Include the relevant savegame file.
and
2) Build one ship of the problem design, give it a turn to live, and then scrap it. Should work around the problem (although it needs to be fixed).

Where do I find his email addy? And wouldn't he need the race file with empire designs saved, with the saved game?

Just to be clear on your work around.
.07: unobsolete design and enter in queue.
.08: do nothing.
.09: recycle ship and re-obsolete design.

Were you able to re-create the bug? And tried this, or is it a guess? Not that guesses are a bad thing. At this point, anything is worth a shot. I just got baseships, and changed a few building strategies, and would really like to clean up the old mess. (first game woe's).
