Editing maps in SE IV
Hi.
I have an anoying problem with the SE IV map editor: it allways crashes, especially if I'm editing something. It gives an error like this one: "Access violation at address (a number) in module 'SE4MAP.EXE'. Read of address (another numbrer).", followed by another that says "Invalid pointer operation". Both the game and the map editor are Version 1.60, of SE IV Gold, I use Windows 98. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
And another thing: I cannot use some cheat codes. I start a game with the Cheat codes allowed, but I can use the "money" and "fast" codes, but with the others it says for example: "The movement log replay is unavailable". Please help me. Thanks.

Re: Editing maps in SE IV
There haven't been many comments about the map editor lately, but from what I recall, the planet names may be giving you the problem.
You may have to leave the names as default until you're done adding system objects, then go back.
I believe it has to do with the way it looks for the next roman numeral to use.

Re: Editing maps in SE IV
I changed a lot of names of planets and other objects, but it didn´t give me any error. The error message appeared when I changed a system ability, or an object ability, etc. I don't know exactly when does it appear, but I can't edit a map.

Re: Editing maps in SE IV
There is no cheat replay thing...
In simultaneous turn games, the replay is generated so that you can watch your ships fly around.
In a sequential turn game, the ships fly as soon as you order them to, and you get to watch, so there exists no replay.

Re: Editing maps in SE IV
You should get the latest patch of SE4 Gold, for one thing. I believe it is linked on the main Shrapnelgames page, maybe in the Downloads section.

Re: Editing maps in SE IV
Yep, you need to get the latest patch: look at this entry in the patch history (about Version 1.66):
2. Fixed - Problem in the SE4 Map Editor which would cause Access Violations when you edited abilities.
The patch is available at www.malfador.com, and also here on the shrapnel site. It adds/ fixes a ton of stuff quite apart from that map editor fix.

Re: Editing maps in SE IV
Thanks. Now with the patch I can edit a map.
And why I can't use the "movement" and "repair" codes?

AFAIK, there are no "movement" and "repair" codes. Where did you see that they were codes? And what are they supposed to do?
If I'm not mistaken the only cheats that are available are the "money" and "fast" cheats.

Re: Editing maps in SE IV
Many sites that list game cheats have got the SE III codes listed for SE IV. Apparently the fact that some of the codes from SE III were carried over has confused some people and they think that allof the old cheat codes still work, which isn't true. Only CTRL-m-o-n-e-y in the Empire window and and CTRL-f-a-s-t in the queue window work in SE IV.

I've been told recently that there is a replay in sequential, but you have to select a ship or unit in space to use it.
I haven't thought to test this myself in my solo games; I don't remember ever needing it in sequential.
