Re: MAPS!
A quick question -- is there any reason maps cannot be any larger than 200x160 or whatever the max is now? I sure would love to be able to do a 2000x2000 map -- that would really test your tactical use of recon, forward observers, supply lines, etc.
Seems like it shouldn't require much in terms of engine editing, although the AI perhaps couldn't handle it. But really, as long as the max force isn't raised, shouldn't it be possible?

Becasue 32,000 hexes ( 200x160 ) was the maximum number of hexes the game can handle. It already bogs down even some modern machines. A 2000x2000 map is 4000000 hexes ( 4 million ) Imagine the size of the save files ! Imagine the delays as the program wrote info on 4 million hexes at the end of every turn.
Keep in mind the original game allowed three map sizes to a maximum of 100x80 and we now allow 285 different sizes from 20x20 up to 200x160.
Also keep in mind that a 2000x2000 hex map represents an area 100km x 100km and even if it WERE possible ( and it's not ) that takes this game WELL beyond what it's intended to represent
