Default Mines again

Is there any mineclearing effect from artillery barrages like in older versions? I have gotten a River crossing scenario in winter (barges and carriers move so slooooow) and have found that the enemy bank is at least 5 hexes deep with mines at 2-3 symbols per hex. This does seem a little too much and might make me reload to skip any assaults over a river.

Artillery does not clear mines

The problem with excessive mines especially in river crossing or beach assault has been corrected in the patch which will be issued this month see the "What Changes in the CD Version" thread for more details.

Would it be possible to create FAE weapons with mine clearing ability? As I understand it, one of the reasons FAE weapons were originally developed was to clear minefields with thier massive overpressure blast.

It would also include the MICLIC and other breaching methods which causes over pressure, but I think even with FAE its hard to do might call for code changes!!!!!

In SP3 it worked, but OTOH it worked too well IMO, just few blasts from 8" howitzer and minefield was no more.

"Artillery does not clear mines"

Can I ask why? It would seem to be an intregal part of an assault against a minefield, if you have the necessary assets. Common sense tactics, IMHO.

A landmine can be triggered by a number of things including pressure, movement, sound, magnetism and vibration.

Anti-personnel mines commonly use the pressure of a person's foot as a trigger, but tripwires are also frequently employed. These could with enough concentradet artillery fire into a small area be somewhat cleared (I wouldnt venture in there).

In SPMBT the mines are anti-vehicle or amrour mines. They require a whole lot more preassure to detonate and/or uses a magnetic trigger, to enable it to detonate even if the tires or tracks did not touch it. To clear such a mine you would need to hit it directly with a arty round so it would fall apart. In the case that these mines arent burried, you artillery fire could probably just knock them around widening the effected area.

The only thing that ressemble mineclearing in artillery form is rockets. Attached to it is a coiled 200m long hose packed with one and a half tons of powerful explosive. After the hose lands on the ground it detonates and destroys or clears any mines along its entire length. It is claimed that in a cleared lane, over 90% of anti-tank mines will have been destroyed. But this requires special equipment, like the brittish Chieftain AVRE MkII Python mine clearance system (not featured in the game i belive)

Rocket just being fired from the last trailer mount.
