Movement question in Simulatanous game (PBW)
If my fleet of ships attacks an enemy fleet, and my fleet moves at a rate of 7, and his at a rate of 6, assuming that we're adjacent, and the enemy tries to flee, will my ships move first, and immediately incite combat in the destination, or will I end up chasing his fleet down, for all 6 of his moves, before combat begins?
Assuming that combat would start immediately, I assume it would make no difference if I gave the fleet the "attack" command, and choose a ship, as opposed to just moving the fleet into the enemies' square?
Thanks!!

Re: Movement question in Simulatanous game (PBW)
I think this depends on your order. If you are player 3 of 5 and he is player 4 of 5 then you will probably move first and battle will take place before he has a chance to move. But if he is player 2 of 5 and you are 3 of five he will move his 6 spaces before you, then your ships will move to intercept and battle will take place 6 squares away from the original spot of your ships.
But then again I think I may be mistaken on this.

Re: Movement question in Simulatanous game (PBW)
I never quite understand these things but I've seen ocassions where a fleet landed on top of another (enemy) fleet and they never fought. Something about combat only occurring every 5 (?) days of the month and that if THAT day arrives and 2 enemy fleets aren't in the same sector, there is no fight and movement begins again.
I could be wrong, though.

Re: Movement question in Simulatanous game (PBW)
I think that is closer to the correct answer, Slynky. Because PBW all ships move at the same time, thus the term simultaneous movement. If the game was sequencial then I believe my answer would have been correct. But I am probably thinking too hard on all of this.

Re: Movement question in Simulatanous game (PBW)
I thought that all ships moved according to a phased system, wherein each turn was composed of 30 "days" and a ship or fleet "spent" a movement point on any given day according to a fixed schedule based on it's total movement points. Sort of like the turn chart in Star Fleet Battles. So, if a ship has 10 movement points, it would spend one every three days, if it had 15 movement it would spend one every other day, etc...and within that structure, movement would be perhaps simultaneous or according to player order. If, after movement for that day was finished there were opposing ships in the same sector, then combat would ensue, I think.
OTOH, if movement was not simultaneous, but went in order of player number, that would be weird, I would think, as it would imply that there actually is a benefit to being player number One - which, IMHO, would be wrong.

Re: Movement question in Simulatanous game (PBW)
Depends on rounding. 30 days / 7 sectors per month = Movement on day ~4.2. 30 / 6 = He moves on day 5. So if it rounds down and has you move on day 4, then you'll meet them and should fight on day 5. If it rounds up, you'll both move on day 5 and not fight, but you'll next move on day 8-9, while he won't move again until day 10, so you should catch whoever you targetted by day 8-9, but he could have split into several directions by then.
There can also be some highly obnoxious effects of the bad pathfinding for interceptors, but in an adjacent case as you describe, I believe it would be like one of the two situations I descibed.

Re: Movement question in Simulatanous game (PBW)
We're getting closer and closer to the final answer.
The question is, do I get rounded up to 5, or down to 4?

Re: Movement question in Simulatanous game (PBW)
PvK is right (and this assumes I was right), I think. In general terms, early in the game with slower engines, fights are more likely. But when ships start moving at 10, 11, and 12 sectors, it's harder to find yourself in the same sector on the day that is scheduled for combat because ships move more often and spend less time in a given sector.

Re: Movement question in Simulatanous game (PBW)
Here, from the FAQ:
6.8.3 Ship moves on different days during the turn depending upon their speed capacity. (The 'movement day' is the day that the ship ends up in a new sector.):
Spd Movement Days
02: 15, 30
03: 10, 20, 30
04: 7, 15, 22, 30
05: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30
06: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30
07: 4, 8, 12, 17, 21, 25, 30
08: 3, 7, 11, 14, 18, 22, 26, 29,
09: 3, 6, 10, 13, 16, 20, 23, 26, 30
10: 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29,
11: 2, 5, 8, 10, 13, 16, 19, 21, 24, 27, 30
12: 2, 4, 7, 9, 12, 14, 17, 19, 22, 24, 27, 29
13: 2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25, 27, 29
A graphical representation of this table can be found here in this thread.. (Quikngruvn)

Re: Movement question in Simulatanous game (PBW)
The data Alarikf pulled from the FAQ is essentially correct, but I have had fleets move on day one and continue moving one or two days early for the entire month. For instance, a speed 10 fleet would make its first move on day one and its Last move on day 28.
