Huge Game Ending Problem... Among others bugs?.
My buddy and I play SEIV through TCP/IP... Here is the *game ender*:
A few turns ago my buddy, the terrans, had a planet rebel. A new empire sprang up calling themselves the Pawtril Confederation. it even showed up on the empires screen. (It even used his picture!) A couple of turns later, he demanded the the Pawtril Confederations surrender. They promptly did so. We quit the game a few turns later to play another day. Now here is the problem: Last night we attempted to play and he now connects as the Pawtril Conderation, which had previously surrendered and has nothing. I am the host so I tried deleting the Pawtril from the game and when he connects we get some kind of "load error 17" I logged in as the Terrans and his empire is still there, he just cannot play them... Any clues on how to fix this???
Problem #2: We seem to get an access violation here and there which requires a reboot. (The game wont simply allow us to reconnect though TCP/IP) Any clues on this?
And Lastly :-) My buddy receives all my Messages in duplicate. I only get one of his... Is this just because I am the host?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Esp. the first question! We are on turn 7 zillion and were about to duke it out man to man to determine the winner.
Thanks!

Re: Huge Game Ending Problem... Among others bugs?.
I had a similar problem Last week. On a LAN 5 of us were playing a TCP/IP game and one of the players surrendered to a neutral. I think he had done the same thing you did. He was trying to ask the little AI to surrender to him. this may be a bug to watch out for. What I did to solve the problem is go in as the host and get your friends big empire to surrender to the small Empire. Then your friend will have control of his Empire again. Or if you have the previous turns saved go back and redo look in the temp file. This was the best I could figure out in the situation I was in as we had done several turns past the point of surrender. If you can redo the surrender turn that would be best. Good luck if you need details e-mail me.

We usually go on 8-12 hour marathons... Prolly was 50 turns ago..
This definitely sounds like a bug considering it happened on another machine I didn't configure :-)

We were using compaqs 700Mhz's machines with 128 MB or better and(gag) Windows ME. We have had other Bugs before double trades/replies But overall it has worked well.

The double Messages don't seem to be a huge problem, but seems to be a bug... The loss of a 100+ turn game is..

Re: Huge Game Ending Problem... Among others bugs?.
When your friend wanted the breakaway empire to surrender, he clicked on the race to send them a message, but what did he do next?
Did he
A)click "Surrender", or did he
B)click "demand/ request/ warn" and then "demand your surrender".
If you do A, you offer your surrender to the recipient of the message. If you want them to surrender to you, you have to do B.

Re: Huge Game Ending Problem... Among others bugs?.
He demanded that they surrender, which they promptly did.
When I look at the empires, his original empire is still active. The breakaway empire is dead and has nothing. There was a suggestion that I have the original empire surrender to the new empire and everything would be ok, but the new empire is "dead".
The weird thing is that both empires in the host screen have my buddy as the owner. If I could somehow remove his ownership of the breakaway empire, he might be able to take his original empire back... Any suggestions on how to accomplish this feat.

I've tried that... As soon as my buddy connects, he logs in as the breakaway empire even when I set his original and breakaway empire as cpu controlled or any combination thereof.

Re: Huge Game Ending Problem... Among others bugs?.
Just a thought, can the other guy run SE4 twice and be able to connect to the game twice, once as each empire?
It does sound kind of wierd. You may want to send this savegame to Malfador along with a description of exactly what heppened. I was involved in a couple test TCP/IP games, but we never had the occurance of a breakaway empire being formed during the game as this happened.
If you are unable to get the game working again as TCP/IP and you want to finish, you can continue the game but play it by email. It will take longer, but at least you can finish.
Each of you will log into your own empire and play your turn. Then have him email you the resulting .plr file and you can log in as host and process the turn. Just say no whenever it asks you if you want to continue in TCP/IP mode and ignore the TCP/IP screen if it comes up at the end. Then email him back the resulting .gam and other files and repeat.
