Default Special Air Service

Just wondering why, in the game this unit starts in 1944, rather than November 1941 (in the Western Desert) as it did historically?

Perhaps because the LRDG are there and do the same job earlier on, for anyone needing such?

Thought it might have been something like that, although historically the LRDG were more about deep recce and the SAS about, mainly airfield, raiding, although the two units did work together on occasion. One very often sees photographs of the two units in the desert misidentified.

Special forces are really only scenario use things, so properly we could have simply not bothered with them and so saved some unit slots. Scenario designers could simply edit an existing unit to suit the scenario.

Special troops like those did not appear on the same battlefield as troops under the command of some lowly colonel, they were army-level or higher and would be many miles away from your troops. So, as pointed out above - really only there for scenario designers doing Jedburgh operations type scenarios.

So if you are making a scenario where only the LRGD are made available, simply change the name to suit.
