Cannot play in full screen mode
I wanted to know if anyone has had any problems with running the program in full screen mode. I get an error labeled "SAL Error" and says, "lpDD->SetDisplayMode() failed, code 80004001". After clicking OK I get another message saying, "DirectDraw could not be initialized! Error code 80004001". I'm running Windows XP Pro with NVidia GeForce FX5950 Ultra (driver ver. 7.7.3.0) and DirectX 9.0c installed.
The game runs just fine in windowed mode. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Cannot play in full screen mode
Press START then RUN then type in dxdiag and check for problems and let us know what it tells you. You can test your DirectDraw functions under the Display tab.
Are you running the game mode DirectX or GDI?

Re: Cannot play in full screen mode
After some further testing, I've found I can run the game at any resolution in windowed mode, but only 1024x768 or lower in full screen mode (it doesn't matter which mode--DirectX or GDI--the results are the same). My current screen resolution is 1680x1050 and I have a wide-screen display.
The results of all of the test on the dxdiag were successful, the following notices: d3d9d.dll is a debug version (and will run slower than the retail version) and nv4_disp.dll is not digitally signed. If you want the full results, I saved the file.

Re: Cannot play in full screen mode
Apple flat screen 20" display--computer is a desktop. I also have a laptop with a 15" (res: 1920x1200) on which the game will play just fine.

Re: Cannot play in full screen mode
Do you have the taskbar "pop-up" enabled on your 20" desktop? That's a kiss of death.
Does your laptop with the 15" use the same DirectX version as your desktop. Those two .DLL's you mentioned sound a bit iffy. Try installing the latest versions. That may help

Re: Cannot play in full screen mode
The taskbar (on both machines) is in the "unlocked" but fixed position on the bottom of the display. Both machines have the same version of DirectX (4.09.0000.0904) and oddly enough the laptop has the same debug version file and two other files that are debug versions the desktop doesn't have (the desktop has those files as retail versions). The laptop has the NVidia GeForce FX Go5200 (64mb) as a video card.

For full screen, the task bar has no relevance.
You mentioned a "wide screen" monitor. It may well be that the drivers for that screen will not handle a DirectX full screen mode higher than 1024 by 768.
Try running the attached DirectX capabilities viewer -
DirectDraw devices/primary display driver (display)\video modes
if there is a distinct lack of anything > 1024X768x8 then your drivers don't support the modes shown on the gameoptions set-up.

Re: Cannot play in full screen mode
I've attached a partial screenshot of the results. It looks to me like it will support up to 1680x1050 (if I'm reading things correctly).

Re: Cannot play in full screen mode
Hmmmmm...... from what I can see from that attachment there is no support on your machine for 1152x864 or 1280x1024 or 1600x1280 resolutions.....at least, I couldn't see any . I see the 1680x1050x32 but that's not a resolution the game is built for and it doesn't appear to support the other two either
When you ran the dxdiag where was it reporting the DLL's being
debug etc? I checked the copy of DX I have and it's the same as the one you show but I didn't see anything but " Final retail" ( one was beta retail )
