Win XP compatability for various Shrapnel games?
Hi folks,
I'm new here. I've popped in a few times. I'm interested in most of the titles but I'm just about ready to do a clean install of WinXP Pro. I was wondering since I can't find any information: what compatability issues are there for the various games? I'm likely to buy SEIV Gold but I'm interested in many.

You'll have no problems with XP and RuneSword II.

I don't have Xp so cannot talk about it first-handed, but I would wonder if Space Empires 4 wouldn't work on XP. It does so on W2k at least.

Re: Win XP compatability for various Shrapnel games?
Thanks,
I'm still hoping for someone who's actually running stuff on XP Pro but I'm feeling less concerned.
Rebuilding my Abit BH6 system this weekend to ASUS A7V333. I'm quite happy with the three+ years of BH6 but doing my every 3 years or so upgrade. All sorts of new bells & whistles on the A7V333, of course that's probably why I bought it.
Well I'll keep bouncing in, in the past I've played a lot of Birth of the Federation with several mods and I'm interested in SE IV gold with mods too.
I'm also a middle aged board gamer. I use to Subscribe to S&T in the 70's. The USArmy got all my time for a few years, now I'm just a avid hobbiest.

I am running The War Engine on XP Pro and there are no problems. Great game, looks fantastic on Dell's 17" flat black moniter.

Thanks again,
What's your summary of the War Engine?
I just finished the hard part of my upgrade. Now on to making sure all my drivers & software are updated.
Really tired but plugging along after all night fiddlin with new mobo/OS etc.

Re: Win XP compatability for various Shrapnel games?
Thanks again for earlier comments!
I've finished most of the updates now for WinXP and have ordered SE IV gold ... should see it by friday ...
I've played some mods before on STBirth of Federation (BotF). I've also played with GameHack, used old Norton Hexedit (PCTools too), and currently use Hexedit 3.1 (BPSoft). I also just downloaded Moctezuma's EU2Generator 104. But I'm having problems getting WinZip 8.1 site busy with my GetRight / Norton Internet Protection. It always tries to d/l a trojan (probably some developer tracking thing) that I auto reject and then I never get connected.
Too much info ...
But I'll be joining you guys more especially once I get SE IV gold going. As money/interest permits I think I'll buy some other goodies too.
Thanks,
Any further info on WinXP and various Shrapnel games especially SE IV gold would be appreciated. Example (not shrapnel):I know on EU2 the Bink player needs to be moved/deleted so it doesn't interfere with loading (Bink AVI doesn't work with WinXP.)

I would say that XP works fine with RS II, but I also urge you to keep it updated from the Gate's site. Also, the Professional edition is MUCH better than the Home one, giving you better control on things.
Hope this helps.

Re: Win XP compatability for various Shrapnel games?
Thanks Vampiric Dread,
I got XP Pro and my only problem was getting use to multiple Users Online on my system. I was doing the logout/switch user thing to check my other Users load ups and didn't realize it actually left them logged "Online". I downloaded the 4.6 Messenger update and although I killed the active Messenger on my "User" system I didn't on theirs and now I've got bugs in my Messenger. Fixed some but I can't do the selective uninstall/reinstall for Messenger.
I'm doing just fine except for staying up til 3AM too many mornings playing SE IV gold w/1.67 patch. No problems other than user head space & timing. (I wanted music but forgot to disable SE IV music so my CD conflicted with SEIV. Found it now CD music is fine not stuttering or playing in "round" with itself.)
Thanks,
Kerm

I'm not running XP, but SE IV will play any music CD that happens to be in the CD drive, as long as it has at least as many tracks as the SE IV CD. (I get the stuttering when the CD has too few tracks.)
There are entries in Space Empires IV Gold\Data\Settings.txt that let you customize which tracks are played, also.
