Which Jotun Infantry do you use mainly?
Other than Niefel Giants (which you can't really mass), what do you use? Hirdman? Spearman? Huskarl? And why?

Re: Which Jotun Infantry do you use mainly?
I use spearmen, as they have long weapons and very high protection. I don't see a point in using the elites since they cost more and have lower protection. However, some units like hurlers can be very effective against tough enemies like knights.

I use spearmen backed by hurlers.
For the Utgard theme the human huskarl with axe is also good.

The Jotun spearman is the type I use the most. The axeman Version gets maluses to ATT & DEF, and has shorter range. The extra damage of axes is irrelevant as Jotuns are already strong enough to kill most foes with a single blow.
The Jotun huskarls and hirdmen lack protection, so I tend to not use them.
When playing the Utgard theme I also use the human huskarls. I recruit one for each Jotun spearman. My typical battle plan is to deploy 2 squads at the same spot, one of Jotun spearmen, one of human huskarls who are ordered to fire at closest. Not only did this reduces friendly fire a lot (the prot 18 giants don't care much anyway), it also allows the huskarls to advance through the giants when they've fired their javelins and help them not being mobbed.
Also don't forget Jotun hurlers, they're well suited for crushing heavy knights.

Hurlers have been toned down: boulders do only 10 dam. (it was 20 in dom1). With STR 20 that's enough to kill most heavy unit, but a 12hp+prot20 knight could survive. And hurlers have 2 ammo only...

Cheers But that don't keep the hurlers from killing my own giants (hp 30, prot 18). I usually avoid them because of misfire.
Also, depending on bless effects the woodsman works pretty well as main infantry.

Yeah, I've seen that too, even with the close range of the stones (only 6 IIRC). Your giants were probably wounded already, or did the stone really made 48 damages ? Is that boulder supposed to be armor negating ?

For the same price and res., Jotun scouts are stealthy, have javelins and can have items...
I've had a good surprise with Jotun Militia. They are fast and much better than human militia (better morale, better armor, do much more damage). Great in small nr for a flanking attack against most indep.
Cheers

No, I've seen a hurler take out a mint giant. Those rocks must be armour negating or something.
And for the scouts, if using commanders as infantry, nothing beats the Herses (for just $10 more). I like to use as shock troopers with some magical trinkets (like a luck charm). They do pretty well in this hole. They aren't stealth, of course.
I prefer the javelist over the militia, just $10 more a piece. Better morale yet and the javelin is nice against knights, too.

Mint giant? Now that's a new flavour...
Seriously - damage rolls are open ended. How else could militia ever damage Ulmish infantry? The one-shot boulder kills on knights and other things like that are probably just lucky rolls.
Now, if you saw it kill a Wyrm in one boulder, then maybe there is something wrong.

Jotuns can throw their javelins pretty far, too (javelin range and damage depend on strength). More effective than longbows and maybe even crossbows, and durable too. (Expensive though - but you have to expect that as Jotunheim.)

Re: Which Jotun Infantry do you use mainly?
I use the elites and later on move to Spearmen. The elites cost more but they cost less in resources and the hitpoints can make up for the armor. They are also less prone to rout. Later when i get more resources i build the Spearmen and those sword-elites.
