War and Peace Question
I apologize if this question has been answered before, but if I'm at war with a computer player is there any way to get him to make peace? I've had computer players who felt brotherly towards me and still won't accept any kind of treaty. Is there an option I'm missing or does one just end a war by signing a non-intercourse treaty? I appreciate an insight anyone can provide.

Re: War and Peace Question
Check the AI files, some AI's may not be able to make treaties.

Re: War and Peace Question
I've never been able to make peace with anyone after war is declared. Dosent matter what race it is. I assume they can make treaties due to having been in a trade pact with them earlier.

Re: War and Peace Question
In my current game, I'm at war with the Terran Confederation, with whom I have had a treaty in the past. Now we are at war and they will not make peace. There's no option to ask for peace and they won't accept any treaty. It doesn't matter if I leave them alone or if I slaughter their people by the millions. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: War and Peace Question
i have been able to do it before, but i have not played against the computer in a while. ZA is right tho, some AI just wont make treaties. you should be able to end a war by signing a NI or NA treaty, but often they wont do it. it depends on their anger level, and also how strong you are (points wise).
you can check the AI files to see what makes the empire you are fighting angry and happy, and also to see if they are willing to make treaties. sometimes you can improve relations by cutting off access to them (via fleets at warp points) and staying out of combat. if you do not have contact for a while, they might simmer down.

The AI's behaviour is often very erratic
It's one of the most annoying problems of SE4. I'm currently at war with the Eee Consortium, and also feels brotherly towards me.

Re: War and Peace Question
What I do is wait tell the AI is brotherly and then take control of them and send myself a peace treaty, and then put the AI back in control of who ever I was at war with. I really hope that this will be fix. I shouldn’t have to do this.

Re: War and Peace Question
The two files that determine the response of the AI to treaty proposals are the anger and politics files. If you changes the values there you will get the AI to accept a treaty after beeing at war with you.
Give a higher value to "Accept Treaty Base Anger Level" and to reduce the value for "Turns Since Last War Before Friendly Treaty" will be the most important changes, but you may try to change other lines as well. Good luck!

Re: War and Peace Question
. . . heh. . . I just destroy as many of their backwater planets as quickly as is humanly possible, and then demand their surrender every 3 turns. . .

Re: War and Peace Question
Argh,
Have you tried: Destroying the AI's fleet, Placing a ship or 2 over every planet, Then demand the surrender. Your profit will be much greater. This is also a more challenging method. If you really want to up the challenge, Capture as many ships as possible instead of destroying them. Makes for a very tough game.
