Game Locking Up...Urghhh
I am using ver 1.27 with Mephisto's 1.6 Modpack. My game hit turn 355 and starting locking up whenever it was player 5's turn, who in this case is the computer-controlled Sergetti. The game includes one human (me) and 11 computer opponents.
The strange thing about it is that if I change control of player 5 to human and then end my turn. The game will finish the turns for player 2, 3, and 4 bring up the Sergetti screen and complete all the manuevers, etc originally planned by the computer. Once finished moving, I change the control back to computer and the game continues fine...until it is player 5's turn again and I need to change ownership again.
Is this a common problem? I hate to delete the game because it is just starting to get interesting, but changing ownership every turn is getting old.

I have a similar problem. With the Modpack, 1.27b research mod (could not find 1.27c), and Sundevils mod loaded, in the order stated by God Emperor. Player 3 (EEE) which is computer controlled but I loaded it manually (not randomly selected) locks up. If I make it human, turn off the AI minister on ship design, and then make it computer again, it works fine. Happened when the race discovered Ship Construction 4. I even changed the mod pack file back to the original ship design file but lock up still happens. Later same problem with player 4, the Jraenar, except this happened when they discovered Ship Construction 7. I also think the problem is with Attack ships, as the all the other ship designs were updated, except for the attack ship. I am still playing the game. With the design minister turned off, I just occasionally go and create them new designs - also lets me see how the rest of the quadrant is doing. Has anyone experienced this with the basic game, as I can not understand how the mods would be causing this problem. Is it a computer time out? By making the computer smarter, is it just running out of time before it finishes its turn. The AT will stop on the player 3 and 4 about 5 seconds even with the ship design minister turned off. Maybe with this minister turned on, the AI just has too much to do before its allotted time slice is up, and since it has not completed its turn, the game locks up - just a guess. I even uninstalled SEIV and reinstalled, installed the new patch and then redownloaded all the mods and reinstalled, thinking some bit might have been bad. However, I am still using the same save game file, so maybe the problem is in the file. Any info would be nice. Thanks,

Had this same problem, even sent a save game file to someone (think it was Daynarr or God Emp) who tried the save. For me it was freezing up on the turn of the Sergetti, (turn 6) and I had to go in manually and finish the turn, eventually had to surrender this empire plus the Xi'Chung as they both froze up. It was Modpack 1.5(I think) and the races were manually loaded to thier expert level in racial points. Have not really tried the current modpack. Just using straight 1.3 patch plus the addition of the Narn, EA, Toron, and Darlok races. So far no freezes. Sorry I can't be of much help other than to say I too have had a few problems but put it off to my fritzy computer.

I discovered what was causing my hang/game crash - a corrupted components file, specifically the small ion engine. Under the preq tech of propulsion, a space was added after the 1. This caused the engine to not be available when fighters were discovered. With no engine, the AI could not build a fighter within the designed specs so it just hung. Corruption occurred when using the 1.60 to 1.61 update, but no corruption when I downloaded the complete 1.61. Back file or bad download. Do not know? But my problem is not fixed.
Restarted game - good mod!

Well, I have gone through the save file and found the event that was causing the lockup. The Sergetti have a large fleet with lots of carriers (I didn't even know that they build them so many ) facing a Xiati half-cloaked fleet of 1 Battleship and 8 Dreadnoughts. When I started strategic combat the game would lock up on turn 1 for Sergetti when they were launching their fighters (it was VERY crowded over there). Why would this happen is beyond me, but it doesn't have anything to do with ModPack itself. It is very likely that if you would wait a very long period of time the combat would eventually be resolved and the game would continue.
I have taken control of Sergetti and went through combat in tactical, and after that everything seems to be fine. I am posting you a save game few turns later.

If it was really crowded, and the game was trying to add more and more fighters, is it possible that it ran out of room, and tried to place a fighter group outside the tactical grid?
