Default game guide's section on british infantry

the guide said that british infantry are best used aggressively, getting into close range with bayonet. As far as I can tell the germans have better automatic weapons and the Japanese are just tougher. so this suggestion seems counterproductive. Do the british infantry have a bonus in close range combat?

Actually, the Germans (except the late war StG44 troops) are the ones you should mostly use long range, where they can reign supreme with their machine guns.

The UK and Commonwealth doctrine for infantry was to use fire and manoeuvre to close with and kill the infantry with bomb and bayonet after winning the fire-fight. (If the enemy decided not to stick around for the CQB phase, that was fine as well.)

The "winning the fire-fight" part was a rather important element to this of course!.

Some discussion of Commonwealth section and platoon battle drills here:http://regimentalrogue.com/papers/sect_atk.htm (Canadian viewpoint)
and here http://www.bayonetstrength.150m.com/...le_platoon.htm (includes discussion of other nations)

Cheers
Andy
