Text problem on copied map
I have finished my master map of South West Grenada. I have placed text for various areas, town...etc.
I then copied and pasted a 90x90 area of that master map into a new scenario.
I was surprised when no text appeared but I thought "Meh, no big deal"
I started to recreate the text. At first all went well but as I typed a location the text appeared either in a wrong location, two locations (one where I had typed and the other somewhere else) or the text appeared doubled where I had typed.
I suspect a ghost in the machine. Any help?
Thank you.

Re: Text problem on copied map
The game is very confused.
It has text recorded in locations that no longer exist when you pasted it into a larger area
Perhaps one of the scenario designers who have experienced this can help you as I have had none in the situation as you describe it

Re: Text problem on copied map
It sounds like the text is already there, but hidden until you invoke it. Have you tried turning the map text off and on to see if that brings it back?

Re: Text problem on copied map
I have ran into this before, it’s several years but i vaugly recall having to hover over each hex and watching the message area and if I saw the erroneous text I’d click in that hex and delete it, if I recall it happens as yo describe after pasting in a a cut out map section, but it’s not always consistent. Oh IIRC this only happens in the game editor, if you do this with map tool it is ok. Or I use the map only editor to fix it. Sorry it’s been a while but I think using the external map editor helps.

Re: Text problem on copied map
Its been a long while, but I think that pasting a section with map text does not work well. There is (if I recollect correctly) a "clear map text" function that zeroes all ythe strings and you probably wil need to use that and then enter your desired text again.

According to the manual the relevant key seems to be
# - clear all map text strings

Re: Text problem on copied map
Thanks to all for your advice. Turning Map text on and off did not solve the problem. Clearing all map text strings did not solve the problem. (surprise, surprise) I tried redoing the copy paste all in the extended map editor (not the scenario editor) and problem persisted.
I wonder is an "undo" function is messing up removing the text with the # key by not removing the text strings in the code? It could be that in the copy paste actions the text within the selection area transferred but incompletely so the text notes in the map code cannot be executed properly.
Interesting note, some re-typed text did not reappear, only certain text entries. My advice is do not copy paste with text because you will have to do it all over again anyway.

Re: Text problem on copied map
I had the same problem years ago, and I didn't want to feel the agony putting an outstanding effort into it, then finding out that it still won't work after working on it for days, so I simply never attempted to make another one.
You know, relatively speaking, computers sure can be real dumb****s! I mean it wasn't like I was trying to simulate weather patterns or make scientific entries or anything.
I don't know, maybe the computer was possessed, or maybe their putting heroin in electricity nowadays.

Re: Text problem on copied map
I just tried cutting sections of map from our custom map 000 that had text and then pasted them in and the text was pasted into the map normally
Then I tried cutting a section of that map out and pasting it into a generated map and the map and the text was pasted into the area of the generated map just like it was in the original test pasted map
What we need are the maps you used with instructions to try and recreate what happened. Right now all we have is a description of events which is of limited use but I used, as best I could , that description given in the first message in my test and my text pasted in OK

Re: Text problem on copied map
DRG when it worked for you, did you use the map tool or the Scenario Editor? Good to know someone got it to work though. I guess there's still hope!
What's the difference between the Scenario Editor and the map tool?
